We are looking for two new Trustees to join our small Board of Directors
Journey Enterprises is a local charity with four sites in the region. The Charity works with adults with intellectual (learning) disability, conditions from birth impacting cognitive and adaptive ability. This includes conditions such as Down's, Williams, cerebral palsy, Fragile X, Prader-Willi and Smith Magenis. Clients come to us to develop work and life skills, the Charity's employability programming its flagship service.
Chosen by the House of Lords in 2021 for the Parliamentary Review, as one of fifteen organisations delivering best practice in the UK, we are commissioned by six local authorities and also run a wide range of charitable trust-funded specialist programmes.
Meeting four times a year our Trustees bring personal or professional experience and insight, helping shape the future of one of the North East's leading disability charities. Two meetings are held by Teams, spanning 2 hours each, and two in person at one of our Hubs where we have our meeting and lunch, giving Trustees an opportunity for face to face discussion.
Trustees provide strategic direction for the Charity, safeguarding the Charity for its current and future operations. They ensure the Charity meets its charitable objects and is well-placed to develop and enrich its services and sites. Day to Day management is devolved to the Chief Executive Officer, who leads a team of 40 Staff across its four sites. Our Staff team are regularly joined by local volunteers, including recently settled adults with relevant prior professional experience, and postgraduate and undergraduate students on practice-based placements.
